How Many Days Till Thanksgiving 2019
The History Of Thanksgiving in the USA:
In the United States of America, the tradition of giving thanks dates back to 1621 when the pilgrims gave thanks for their first bountiful harvest in Plymouth Rock. In November 1620, the settlers had arrived while founding the first permanent English settlement in the New England region. Here the first Thanksgiving was celebrated for three days; the settlers arranged a festive party and entertained the natives with dried fruits, boiled pumpkin, turkey, venison and much more.
Later, although for many years, Thanksgiving day was not repeated, yet in 1789, George Washington proclaimed Thanksgiving to be a national holiday on Thursday, November 26 that year. Different American states celebrated the day on different dates in the later years until President Lincoln proclaimed the last Thursday in November a national day of Thanksgiving in 1863. Every year following, the President proclaimed a day of Thanksgiving.
With the proclamation of President Roosevelt in 1939, Thanksgiving was switched from the final Thursday in November to the next-to-last Thursday in the same month. This step was taken to create a longer Christmas shopping period and to support the American economy that was recovering and getting better after The Great Depression.
