Lucy (Julian Lennon and James Scott Cook song)

Lucy JulianLennon.jpg

Lucy” is a tune written and carried out by Julian Lennon, James Scott Cook and Todd Meagher. The tune is a quasi-follow-up to The Beatles’ “Lucy within the Sky with Diamonds”, initially impressed by a drawing by a then four-year-old Lennon given to his father. The drawing was impressed by Lucy Vodden, a toddler pal of Lennon, and this tune is devoted to her.[1]

Lennon contacted his childhood pal Lucy later in life, and discovered she had contracted the auto-immune illness lupus which she ultimately died from. A portion of the proceeds from gross sales of the tune and the EP launch went to 2 lupus charities, St. Thomas’ Lupus Trust (www.lupus.org.uk) within the United Kingdom and the Lupus Foundation of America.[1]

Lennon and Cook appeared on CBS’s The Early Show on 16 December 2009 to debut the tune. In the interview with co-anchor Harry Smith, Lennon revealed his authentic drawing depicting Lucy “bought misplaced. So the way it was discovered or who might have taken it, I do not know, nevertheless it’s now been re-found and David Gilmour from Pink Floyd has it and kindly allowed us to make use of a duplicate of it for the artwork work” for “Lucy.””[1]
